Jermaine McGhee
Jermaine McGhee is a multifaceted and engaging scholar, practitioner, and choreographer with a passion for dance. He began his training in the Education and Arts Enrichment program at North Carolina Dance Theatre, now Charlotte Ballet, and later received a scholarship/fellowship at Piedmont Dance Conservatory under the guidance of former ABT company member, Rebecca Massey in Kannapolis, North Carolina. His talent was recognized when he was named the 2003 Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Dancer of Distinction during his time at the Northwest School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Jermaine expanded his skills by training at the renowned Alvin Ailey School in New York, where he completed the certificate program under the esteemed direction of Denise Jefferson. In 2018, he earned a BA in Performing Arts from St. Mary’s College of California.
With a diverse background in commercial and concert dance, Jermaine has showcased his versatility in various styles, ranging from classical ballet to hip-hop and jazz funk. He strongly believes in bridging the gap between the entertainment industry and academia, and as an innovative educator, he creates a learning environment where dance skills intertwine with life skills.
Jermaine's pursuit of knowledge led him to complete an MFA in Dance: Creative Practice with a certification in Dance Stage Management. This has allowed him to share his expertise as a guest artist at the University of Alabama and as a co-author in collaboration with the communication department at Ohio Northern University. Furthermore, Jermaine serves as an advisory council member for Dance Data Project, a prominent nonprofit organization recognized for its global resource in promoting equity through data analysis, advocacy, and programming within the arts.
Combining his graduate studies at St. Mary's College and his professional performance background, Jermaine possesses a unique ability to create immersive and rigorous learning environments for students and professionals alike. His interdisciplinary approach promises an exceptional studio experience that enriches and cultivates artistic growth.
